Shortening, sugar, buttermilk, egg yolks, baking soda, flour, salt, vanilla and stiff egg whites. Fluffy egg whites make all the difference in this batter! Can make ahead of time and store in an air-tight container. Freeze any leftovers for a quick dessert later. You MUST make this cake ASAP!!
