Vanillekipferl: the original Austrian recipe for vanilla biscuits in croissant form

Step 1
Collect soft butter and granulated sugar in a bowl1.

Mix the ingredients with the tines of a fork2.

Add the egg yolk to the buttercream3.

Add the sifted flour and season with 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence4and knead carefully until you get a smooth and homogeneous mixture.

Form a loaf5, wrap in cling film and leave to rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.

After the time has elapsed, form 10-15 balls of equal weight from small portions of dough6.

Shape them with your hands to give them the characteristic crescent shape7.

Once the cookies are ready, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper8.

Place in a preheated oven at 180°C and bake for about 12 minutes. When they are golden brown and fragrant, remove the pastries from the oven9and leave to cool on a wire rack.

Sprinkle the vanilla crescents with a thin layer of icing sugar and arrange on a serving plate10. Bring to the table and serve.
