Puff pastry rustici are tasty and tasty appetizers, ideal for an aperitif with friends, a party buffet or a Sunday brunch with the family. A lighter but equally delicious alternative to the rustic classics with frankfurters. They are prepared in a few minutes with only 3 ingredients: ready-made puff pastry, cooked ham and cheese.
To prepare them, simply cut the dough into four equal parts, place a mint stick rolled in cooked ham in the center of each rectangle and finally wrap the dough around the filling by making small incisions on the surface with a smooth-bladed knife. After placing the rustici on a baking tray lined with baking paper and seasoning them with salt, ground pepper and chopped dry rosemary ,
all you have to do is bake them at 180 °C and let them cook for about half an hour: the result is fragrant and stringy finger foods, perfect at the start of a meal or as a rich snack.
Excellent both hot and at room temperature, the Rustici can be filled with your favorite cold cuts and spreadable cheeses , with smoked salmon, robiola and chopped pistachios, with drained tuna in oil and grated zucchini… Or they can be made in a vegetarian version with a filling of ricotta and spinach or tomato paste and mozzarella.
If you want, you can finish with other aromatic herbs of your choice, such as oregano or dried basil, or instead of milk, brush the surface of the dough cylinders with lightly beaten egg yolk and finally sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds.
