Orange almond cake with poppy seed harmony

Instructions

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until the mixture is fluffy and light.
Add the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the almond flavoring and orange zest.
Optionally, add a few drops of orange food coloring for a vibrant color.
Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and poppy seeds.
Combine all ingredients, bake & layer
Add the dry and wet ingredients alternately to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients
Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans
Bake each for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean

While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting by beating together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
Assembly & Decoration
Brush the cooled cake layers with additional orange juice.
