The Streusel Kartoffel is a delicious cake that is easy to prepare to make a savory version of the famous sweet Streusel. Perfect as a starter at the beginning of a lunch or dinner with family or friends, but also ideal to take with you on trips out of town, for a tasty break at work, or cut into squares and serve as an aperitif and party buffet.
The recipe is quick and very simple: prepare a soft dough with mashed boiled potatoes , an egg, a pinch of salt, a generous handful of grated Parmesan, flour and nutmeg; put half of the potato mixture in a 20-centimeter-diameter springform pan previously buttered and sprinkled with breadcrumbs, fill it with browned sausage and diced provola, then cover with the remaining crumbled mixture.
Everything is seasoned with freshly ground black pepper and finished with flakes of butter and breadcrumbs. Once cooked in the oven, the result is a dish that is crispy on the outside and sinewy at the heart, and will conquer the palates of adults and children alike.
Excellent when eaten hot, it tastes even better after a few hours of rest; you can keep it well covered in the fridge for a few days and eat it cold or reheat it when needed.
