Strawberry Sponge Cake: So Simple, So Perfect!

Prepare strawberries: Wash, dry and slice the strawberries. Set aside a few whole berries for decoration.

Baking: Pour the batter into a greased baking pan, spread the strawberry slices on top and bake in the preheated oven at 180°C for about 10 minutes until the sponge cake is golden brown and firm.

Finishing: Remove the cake from the oven, allow to cool slightly and dust with icing sugar. Garnish with the reserved whole strawberries.

This strawberry sponge cake can be served warm or cold. It’s delicious on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Experiment with other fruits such as raspberries, blueberries or a combination of different berries for a mixed berry sponge cake. Lemon zest or a dash of vanilla extract can be added to the batter for extra flavour.
