Yeast preparation: In a bowl, mix the yeast, 1 tablespoon of sugar and the lukewarm milk (be careful not to overheat it, this could kill the yeast). Cover and let sit for about 5 to 7 minutes, until the yeast begins to foam.
Mixing the ingredients: Add the egg, melted butter, flour, salt and remaining sugar to the yeast mixture. Mix well to form a smooth dough.
Kneading the dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover and leave in a warm place until doubled in size.
Shaping the buns: Punch down the dough to release the air.
Shape the dough into small balls and place them in a greased baking dish. Cover again and let rise a second time.
Cooking: Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Bake the buns for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Finishing: Brush the rolls with melted butter immediately after removing them from the oven.
These soft and tasty rolls are perfect to accompany a meal, for breakfast or simply to treat yourself with fresh homemade bread. Their soft texture and subtle taste will be appreciated by all.
