preparation:

Put the poppy in a bowl, pour boiling water over it and set aside. Afterwards, drain the water and grind the poppy with a blender.
We put the butter and sugar in a bowl and mix foam. One by one, we also incorporate the eggs, mixing continuously. Add the orange juice and peel, salt and mix. Finally, we incorporate the sifted flour together with the baking powder, using a spatula. We transfer a third of the dough to another bowl and mix it with the poppy seeds.
We transfer the simple dough to the pan lined with baking paper and make a hole in the middle. We pour the dough with poppy seeds into the depression and then over the entire surface of the plain dough. Put the cherries on top and put the pan in the oven preheated to 180 degrees for 40-50 minutes.

Baking time depends on each individual oven, the cake is ready when it passes the toothpick test. After the cake cools, we can dust it with powdered sugar.
