Lent Recipe – Homemade Soft and Fluffy Donuts (with Yeast Dough) – Best Lent Donuts

preparation:

In a deep bowl, crumble the yeast and mix it with 1 tablespoon of sugar and 200 ml of warm water. Add 1 tablespoon of flour and mix until smooth.
We cover the bowl and put it in a warm place so that the yeast activates and the composition increases its volume.
After the yeast activates, add the remaining sugar, salt and grated lemon peel and mix. Add the remaining water, the oil and mix again.
Add the carbonated water, mix, then gradually add the sifted flour.
We mix with a spoon until we get a dense dough, after which we transfer the dough to the work surface sprinkled with flour.
Knead for 5-7 minutes, being careful not to overdo it with the flour. The dough should remain soft. We transfer the dough obtained in this way into a clean bowl greased with oil.
Grease the dough with a little oil, cover the bowl with cling film and leave it in a warm place to rise for 90-120 minutes.
Transfer the leavened dough to the floured work surface. We bend the edges inward a little, after which we gently stretch it with our hands.
Sprinkle with flour and roll out with a rolling pin to a thickness of 1.5-2 cm.
With a round shape or a glass we cut out circles from the top.
We collect the remaining dough, shape into a ball, stretch and cut again. Heat the oil in a saucepan. We put the donuts in the hot oil, and after 30-40 seconds we cover with a lid and fry for another 30-40 seconds.
We lift the lid and turn them to the other side.

Note: during frying, we turn the donuts 2 times.
Transfer the donuts to a plate lined with paper towels. For decoration, dust them with powdered sugar.
