Apple Turnovers: the best recipe for the classic dessert

How to generate Apple revenue
Preheat your oven to 400°F. Peel apples. Melt butter in a large heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Stir in apples and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Turn the heat to low, then add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir and cook until the apples are caramelized and the mixture thickens. Remove from the heat and let cool completely.
Roll out the dough to about 27 cm. Cut it into 10 cm squares with a sharp knife.
Place 1 to 2 tablespoons of the cooled apple filling into one half of each square, leaving room for the edges.
Beat the egg with a tablespoon of water. Using a pastry brush, lightly coat the edges of the dough. Fold the dough to close and gently but firmly press down around the edges to form a seal. Press together with a fork.
Place the dumplings on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Use a sharp knife to cut small slits into the dumplings so that the steam can escape. Brush with egg and bake for 20 to 22 minutes until golden brown.
Whisk together the powdered sugar and cream in a small bowl. Drizzle over the warm dumplings and serve.
Remarks
While this recipe calls for apples, you can also make dumplings with other fillings such as strawberry, apple-rhubarb or blackberry, or make savory versions with meat and cheese.
