Apple, Pecan Cake With Buttercream Frosting Recipe

8. Pour batter into prepared pans
9. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick in center comes out clean

10. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove the cakes to wire racks and let cool completely
To make buttercream frosting:
1. In a medium bowl, combine butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, salt and heavy cream and beat for 5 to 7 minutes
until light and fluffy
2. Add more powdered sugar as needed for thicker frosting or add heavy cream a little at a time to thin frosting
To assemble the cake:
1. Place one of the cake rounds on a serving platter
2. Spread a thin layer of buttercream frosting over the cake
3. Set another cake layer on top of the filling and spread buttercream frosting over the entire cake
4. Press the chopped pecans or walnuts into the sides of the cake and sprinkle some over the edges
