Chocolate salami: the original recipe for a simple and delicious dessert

Chocolate salami is one of the easiest and quickest desserts to prepare without baking, a popular classic of home cooking based on dry biscuits and dark chocolate . It is a simple and spectacular dessert, perfect as a dessert to end a Sunday meal or for Christmas, Easter and special occasions, also ideal for enriching buffets for parties and birthdays.
The dessert is also known as ” Viking salami ” – as it is called in “Grandma Duck’s Manual”, the 1970s cookbook in which it first appeared – or as Turkish salami in reference to its characteristic dark color reminiscent of the skin of the Moors.
“Salami” because of its appearance: once all the ingredients are mixed, the mixture actually takes the shape of a cylinder ; after a few hours of rest in the refrigerator, necessary so that it does not crumble when cut, the chocolate salami is finally dusted with icing sugar , making it resemble a real sweet sausage .
For a successful dessert, it is important to choose very fresh eggs , as in our case, since they will be used raw. Alternatively, you can pasteurize them or even leave them out and make a delicious egg-free chocolate salami. It is also important that the ingredients are at room temperature, so remember to take them out of the fridge at least 30 minutes before starting preparation.
As with any classic recipe, there are different versions , from the one with coffee to the variant with cornflakes, and each family has its own: for example, there are those who use Oro Saiwa, as tradition dictates, others who opt instead for another type of dry biscuits, in which the dough is still enriched with dried or dried fruit.
